“Mini” Tornado Outbreak in Michigan

Unusual warmth for this time of the year is spawning tornadoes in Michigan. Central and southern Michigan are under a slight risk of severe weather. Much of this area also has 5% chance of tornadoes, which might not sound bad, but 5% is actually a bit high. There is already been several tornado warnings, some reporting strong rotation and ever hook echoes! Even more dangerously, some of these tornadoes could be rain wrapped, so you might not see a tornado, while it’s still there! If under any warnings, take all precautions. This means take shelter if under a tornado warning, otherwise you could be at risk!

These are the areas under the tornado watch in Michigan Via: NWS

**NYC Metro Brush Fire Threat!!**

Good afternoon New York City Metro!  I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful weather!  We experienced sunshine and temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s across Manhattan and inland sections.  Temperatures have struggled to reach 60 in coastal areas of Long Island.  But it’s this dry weather that is causing problems.  As you are aware, we’ve had little overall precipitation since the start of 2012.  This results in very dry soil, so any gusts of wind can help spark brush fires!  In fact, over the past week, we have been getting reports of brush fires throughout the Metro.  Statin Island was the location of a brush the other day, and crews have been battling a brush fire along the northbound side of the New Jersey Turnpike in Newark, NJ, near Newark Liberty International Airport!  Luckily, both of these fires have been relatively small and not too widespread.  The point is we all need to use caution when burning and any smokers should be careful and disposing cigarettes.  Some showers and thunderstorms (non-severe) tonight will make the ground a bit more moist, so brush fires won’t be as big of a threat tomorrow as they are today, despite similar, if not warmer, temperatures!  Enjoy your evening!

Great Weather Ahead for This Week!

If you live on the east coast and love warm weather, you will love this pattern starting tomorrow! Highs the whole week will range from 60’s to 80’s, depending on where you where you live! The Northeast will have temperatures mainly in the 60’s in 70’s, while the Southeast will have temperatures mainly in the 70’s and 80’s. I wouldn’t rule out more southern areas of the Northeast, like Washington, DC to reach 80 degrees, if not miss it by a few degrees! This pattern may as well last into the following week, and beyond!   Another good thing will be that there won’t be any major severe outbreaks the next several days!

-Jared

Warm Days Ahead!
